Hits:7PublishDate:2019-01-18
A new year begins. As the season changes from winter to spring, people look forward to great achievements and new hopes this year. Black-faced spoonbills wintering in Taiwan molt into golden breeding plumage and return to the breeding ground in the north after the Spring Festival. The Taijiang National Park Headquarters held the “Season of the Black-Faced Spoonbill in Taijiang - Peace and Happiness in 2019” event on January 26, 2019 at the Black-faced Spoonbill Watching Pavilion in Qigu. The purpose of the event is for people to make wishes and pray for luck in the New Year, and pray for the black-faced spoonbills to return to the breeding ground successfully and return to Taijiang this September. Staff will hang the wind chimes in the shape of the black-faced spoonbill and crab in Taijiang. People can write down their prayers and blessings on the wind chimes for a happy future with the black-faced spoonbills.

Over half of the black-faced spoonbills around the world winter in the Taijiang National Park and its surrounding area. Most of them perch in the Black-Faced Spoonbill Reserve in Qigu. When spring comes, the golden breeding plumage grows from the neck of the wintering black-faced spoonbill. This flock of birds will gradually return to the breeding ground in north after the Spring Festival and prepare for reproduction. The Taijiang National Park Headquarters wants to wish the black-faced spoonbills to arrive at the breeding grounds safely. Therefore, it will hold the “Season of the Black-Faced Spoonbill in Taijiang - Peace and Happiness in 2019” event at the Black-faced Spoonbill Watching Pavilion in Qigu on January 26. Everyone is welcome to pray for luck and make wishes for the black-faced spoonbills and family and friends in the new year. During the event, our staff will explain the wetlands habitat. Visitors can watch the black-faced spoonbills and join the “Smiling Wind Chime DIY” event. Six patterns of the wind chimes are available, including the black-faced spoonbill, crab and milkfish. All of them are cute wetlands creatures. Visitors can use the local clam shells to make a wind chime and write a wish card. Staff will hang the wind chimes on the exterior of the Black-faced Spoonbill Watching Pavilion. Let the wind blow our wishes and blessings into the sky.
