Revival of Liukong Wharf

Liukong Wharf in Qigu, Tainan is one of the two recreation areas at the Taijiang National Park. It’s important for local fishery and the starting point for traveling around the lagoon and viewing the sandbanks. It's also important for the “Chih Tsui Yuan Clam Digging” event, organized by the Tainan City Government.

Qigu is very hot and salty. The north wind blows hard in Qigu. The existing facilities are rotten, damaged and cannot be used. Therefore, Qigu has seen a gradual decline in tourist arrivals. We authorized a professional design team to build the facilities. The primary goal of the facility is sustainability, weather resistance and easy maintenance. After the facilities are completed, we hope that tourists would want to walk on the dike and cross the dike to the other side, enjoying the Taijiang Inland Sea. Besides being a facility for festivals, we hope that the port can become a popular recreation area for tourists and locals.

Based on the need and ideas above, we have built a new canopy frame with white shade grill in April, 2018. There wasn't much shade in the square. This canopy frame can help solve this problem. We set up a semi-outdoor dining area and placed linear landscape chairs on the side of the dike. Tourists can enjoy the ocean breeze, taste the local snacks, overlook the Qigu lagoon and have a great time in Taijiang. We set up waterfront stairs for people to enter the water from the square during an event, solving the problem of traffic flow for entry. This year the Chih Tsui Yuan Clam Digging event attracted up to 16,400 visitors. We expect that the renovated Liukong Wharf will become a versatile venue for recreation, habitat tour and humanity learning, and offering an additional value to the industry. We anticipate that the Liukong Wharf will further drive the enhancement and development of local and tourism industries.
