Taijiang National Park Headquarters Rebranding Ceremony Held on October 2
The Ministry of the Interior officially established the National Park Service on September 20, 2023, to manage national parks, national nature parks, wetlands, and coastal areas. The new National Park Service was inaugurated by its first Director-General, Chen Mao-Chun, who presided over the unveiling ceremony. In line with the establishment of the National Park Service, the Taijiang National Park Administration, previously under the Construction and Planning Agency of the Ministry of the Interior, was renamed the Taijiang National Park Headquarters (TJNP) of the National Park Service, Ministry of the Interior. On October 2, 2023, TJNP held a rebranding ceremony, inviting various partners who have supported the growth of Taijiang National Park over the years to celebrate this milestone, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter for the national park.
Distinguished guests included Deputy Executive Director Liu Mi-Shan of the Yunlin-Chiayi-Tainan Joint Services Center, Executive Yuan, Chief Secretary Chang Wei-Chuan of the National Park Service, City Councilor Tsai Li-Ching, Director Hsieh Wei-Song of TJNP, Captain Chiu Sheng-Huan of the Seventh Division of the Seventh Special Police Corps, as well as local partners such as the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area Headquarters, the Qigu Research Center of the Ministry of Agriculture’s Taiwan Biodiversity Research Institute, the Tainan City Government’s Tourism Bureau, Agriculture Bureau, Urban Development Bureau, Annan District Office, and local temples including the Sicao Dazhong Temple, Luermen Mazu Temple, Tucheng ZhenTong Luermen Mazu Temple, and Haiwei Chaohuang Temple. Also in attendance were community leaders from areas surrounding the Taijiang National Park, presidents of community development associations, members of the Taijiang Wetland Seed School Alliance, TJNP staff, and volunteers, totaling 150 people.
The "Taijiang National Park Plan" was officially approved by the Executive Yuan in 2009, making it Taiwan’s 8th national park, and the first to be initiated by local efforts before being established by the central government. It is also the only national park that integrates historical and cultural heritage, natural ecology, and fishing and salt industry resources, with a focus on "coexistence with local communities." In response to the growing global emphasis on ecological conservation and the preservation of cultural heritage, national parks play a key role. The protection of the nation’s unique natural landscapes, wildlife, plants, and historical sites is an ongoing mission of national parks.
Today’s unveiling ceremony marks a significant milestone, symbolizing a new chapter for Taijiang National Park. The growth and development of Taijiang National Park have been made possible thanks to the unwavering support and collaboration of local agencies and community partners. Looking ahead, we hope to continue working together to promote wetland conservation and protect Taijiang, forging a shared future.
