Taijiang National Park Launches the 2024 Taijiang Satoumi Spring Tour Satoumi Quest Ride - Taijiang West Etude

In collaboration with local communities, businesses, fishermen, and elementary schools in Qigu, Taijiang National Park Headquarters has crafted the "Satoumi Quest Ride - Taijiang West Etude," a special spring tour set to kick off on March 23, 2024. The tour will be held across three sessions on March 23rd, April 27th, and May 25th, offering participants the chance to explore the region's unique landscapes and culture during the spring months.

The "Satoumi Quest Ride" connects a variety of landscapes and industries within Taijiang National Park. Starting at the Shifen community in Qigu District, the tour is guided by local cycling guides and residents, heading west along the Zengwen River dike. Participants will pass by salt-tolerant crops such as onions, garlic, and melons, as well as expansive fish ponds where clams and milkfish—key to the local aquaculture economy—are farmed. The route also passes through primary habitats of the black-faced spoonbill before reaching the Guosheng Lighthouse, the westernmost point on Taiwan's mainland. Locally known as the "lazy person's guide," this 23-kilometer round-trip offers a comprehensive experience of the region's main industries and ecological highlights, including eco-friendly fish ponds like Zengwen Haipu Fish Ponds and East Fish Ponds, emphasizing the park’s role in protecting the black-faced spoonbill. At midday, participants will visit the charming local café, Xianren Tea Shop , to enjoy a meal of tomato pasta made with locally sourced salt-tolerant tomatoes, accompanied by signature local drinks. In the afternoon, the tour continues to the Taijiang Art Community in Shifen Community for an art tour, concluding with a DIY papercut postcard session, allowing participants to capture the scenic beauty of the Satoumi landscape they experienced throughout the day.

Taijiang National Park Headquarters, in collaboration with local communities, businesses, fishermen, and residents, has launched the "Taijiang Satoumi Four Seasons Tour." This initiative not only features this year's spring "Satoumi Quest Ride - Taijiang West Etude," but will also introduce other seasonal tours: the summer "Crabs and Cicada Chirping - Taijiang Summer Night Carnival," the autumn "Harvest Bounty - Taijiang Autumn Dawn Harvest Season," and the winter "Fishy Encounters - Taijiang Winter Feast." Through these partnerships, Taijiang National Park aims to play a pivotal role in environmental education in Taiwan, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration models with neighboring communities, businesses, fishermen, and residents. Information on registration for the "Satoumi Quest Ride - Taijiang West Etude" and subsequent Satoumi tours will be continuously updated on the "Taijiang Satoumi" Facebook page.
