Taijiang "Black-faced Spoonbill Brand Concept Store" Unveiling: Expanding Corporate Participation in Eco-Friendly Habitat Construction
The Taijiang National Park Headquarters (TJNPH) has launched its eco-friendly brand initiative, the "Black-faced Spoonbill Brand," which grants exclusive trademark licensing to products from "Eco-friendly Habitats" certified by the National Park. These habitats operate under strict ecological guidelines to ensure the protection of species like the black-faced spoonbill during their wintering period. Such measures include complying with eco-friendly habitat construction measures, including sunning fields during the wintering period of international migratory species like the Black-faced Spoonbill, maintaining water levels between 20 to 30 centimeters, refraining from using chemical agents, releasing by-catch fish, not disturbing birds, and conducting bird surveys. Launched three years ago, the initiative has seen significant growth—from five products in 2020 to 35 aquaculture products and five ecotourism services now bearing the Black-faced Spoonbill trademark and Wetland emblem by 2024. To celebrate these achievements, the TJNPH held the 2024 market launch event for the Black-faced Spoonbill trademark and Wetland label eco-friendly products on June 27th, showcasing successful collaborations with local fishermen, gradually expanding the safe foraging grounds for the black-faced spoonbill across the Greater Taijiang area, and narrating the beautiful biodiversity of Taijiang through black-faced spoonbill branded aquaculture products, ecotourism, and educational activities.
TJNPH Director Hsieh Wei-Song stated that in alignment with the government's 2050 Net Zero transformation goals, the Taijiang Eco-friendly Habitat Construction Plan will not only continue collaborating with fishermen but will also expand to include partnerships with corporations. The goal is to create products that meet various United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), such as Quality Education (SDG 4), Clean Water and Sanitation (SDG 6), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8), Responsible Consumption and Production (SDG 12), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17). By leveraging corporate resources through donations, adoption, or green purchasing, the initiative aims to enhance public-private collaboration and achieve mutual benefits for all.
During today’s (June 27th) event, local fishermen showcased these eco-friendly products. Demonstrations included deboned milkfish cutting by a local fisherman from Qigu District, Yang Dian-Hao, and a creative local seafood cuisine presentation by Yeh Jen-Hao of ME Daily. The event concluded with an unveiling of the "Black-faced Spoonbill Brand Concept Store," which will be established in Qigu and Annan Districts by partnering fishermen. These stores will offer visitors a variety of services including an understanding of eco-friendly habitats, conservation ideas associated with the Black-faced Spoonbill brand, tasting creative dishes, experiencing ecotourism services, and purchasing branded products, marking a new milestone in integrating the Black-faced Spoonbill brand into the local community.
TJNPH mentioned that the public could support the fishermen partners directly through physical purchases at the "Black-faced Spoonbill Brand Concept Store" or online via the "Happy Spoonbill Platform" to engage in green consumption. Additionally, to maximize the benefits of public-private collaboration and promote ecological conservation and industry well-being, a "Black-faced Spoonbill Authorized Product Green Procurement Exhibition" is scheduled for August 28 at the Gan Lin Hall of The Place Tainan hotel. The event welcomes businesses with ESG and SDGs goals, as well as restaurants, hotels, and other enterprises interested in green procurement, to learn more about the Black-faced Spoonbill authorized products and the concept of eco-friendly habitat construction, fostering further green procurement initiatives and contributing to the construction of a green map for Taijiang's eco-friendly habitats and the preservation of biodiversity.
