Taijiang National Park Opens Registration for the 2024 Taijiang Satoumi Autumn Tour Autumn Bounty – Taijiang Autumn Dawn Harvest Season

In collaboration with eco-friendly habitat fishermen and local Taijiang-trained guides, Taijiang National Park organizes the annual “Autumn Bounty – Taijiang Autumn Dawn Harvest Season” community eco-tour each fall. This year, three sessions will take place from September to November, giving the public multiple opportunities to participate! The first session is scheduled for 4:30 AM on Wednesday, September 11, offering a rare chance to witness clams being harvested and brought ashore—a unique and not-to-be-missed experience!

The rich ecological environment of Taijiang owes much to its thriving aquaculture industry. Qigu and Annan districts are known for producing high-quality seafood such as milkfish, clams, mullet, grouper, and oysters. Local fishermen employ eco-friendly farming practices, ensuring that their ponds not only support sustainable aquaculture but also provide essential feeding grounds for black-faced spoonbills and other migratory birds during the winter. This embodies the “Satoumi” spirit of coexistence between ecology and industry. Autumn marks the harvest season for fish farms, with most activities taking place at night or early dawn. For many, the process of bringing seafood ashore is shrouded in mystery. To unveil this hidden world, the “Autumn Bounty – Taijiang Autumn Dawn Harvest Season” invites participants to observe the harvesting process directly, guided by eco-friendly fishermen and local experts. Visitors can experience the joy of fresh seafood coming ashore, learn about the production process, and enjoy detailed explanations from trained guides. The tour doesn’t end there! Participants will then enjoy a traditional fisherman’s drink and a delicious local breakfast, followed by a leisurely morning stroll through the fishing village. Along the way, they’ll learn about traditional fishing gear, immerse themselves in the vibrant village atmosphere, and savor a unique morning feast in the heart of a fishing community.

The rare chance to observe a live harvest is made even more special by the challenging hours and remote locations involved. These unique circumstances create an unforgettable experience, so seize this opportunity and register for this extraordinary event!

The Taijiang National Park Headquarters, under the Ministry of the Interior’s National Park Service, has collaborated with local communities to develop distinctive tours that highlight ecological conservation and the essence of the Satoumi landscape. As part of the “Taijiang Satoumi Four Seasons Tour” series, the spring tour, “Taijiang Satoumi Spring Tour Satoumi Quest Ride - Taijiang West Etude,” invites participants to explore the area’s ecological wonders on two wheels. In summer, “Crabby Encounters and Cicada Serenades – Taijiang Summer Night Carnival” brings the vibrant nightlife of Taijiang to life. Autumn features “Bountiful Harvest – Taijiang Autumn Dawn Harvest Season,” offering a rare glimpse into the harvest season at fish ponds. Finally, the winter tour, “Fishes and Feathered Guests – Taijiang Winter Feast,” highlights the coexistence of aquaculture and migratory birds, creating a one-of-a-kind experience for participants. Through close collaboration with local communities, the initiative fosters interdisciplinary cooperation, positioning Taijiang’s neighboring communities, businesses, fishermen, and residents as key players in Taiwan’s environmental education efforts.
