Special Exhibition: Taijiang Legend – Tainan 400: Memories of the Sea and Land

The Taijiang National Park Headquarters (hereinafter “TNPH”) is committed to ecological conservation while promoting public engagement through diverse educational initiatives. In recent years, TNPH has launched thematic exhibitions to convey the values of natural conservation and cultural history in an accessible and entertaining manner.

In celebration of Tainan's 400th anniversary, this special exhibition is inspired by “Dramatic Tales of Taijiang,” a theatrical performance developed by TNPH’s interpretive volunteers. It explores Taijiang’s transformation from the Dutch colonial era, when commerce-based governance began, through the Kingdom of Tungning, the Qing Dynasty, and Japanese colonial periods. Visitors will discover profound changes in Taijiang’s inland sea and surrounding regions through historical maps and illustrated figures, revealing the stories behind the area’s historical landmarks, industries, and cultural landscapes. The exhibition features interactive experiences such as “Historic Map Monopoly” and “Taijiang No. 1,” allowing visitors to delve into the exploration routes of Dutch navigators in Taijiang’s inland sea, as well as the settlement, industrial, and political-economic changes brought about by the area's evolving geography.

“Taijiang Legend – Tainan 400: Memories of the Sea and Land” will be on display from October 30, 2024, to March 30, 2025, in the second-floor special exhibition room at the Taijiang Visitor Center. Visitors are warmly invited to explore this time-traveling historical journey and uncover the pivotal role and stories of Taijiang in Taiwan’s history.
