The Oral Traditions of Taijiang: Legends, Proverbs, and Stories—Registration for Book Launch and Lectures Now Open!
The Taijiang National Park Headquarters of the National Park Service of the Ministry of the Interior (hereinafter referred to as Taijiang HQ), has recently published The Oral Traditions of Taijiang: Legends, Proverbs, and Stories. To transform academic research into public-friendly outreach, Taijiang HQ will host a book launch as well as lectures by the authors, sharing Taijiang’s history in various formats with the public.
Director Shieh Wei-sung of Taijiang HQ stated that The Oral Traditions of Taijiang: Legends, Proverbs, and Stories is a follow-up to the 2023 publication The Divine Journeys of Taijiang: Deities and Amulets. Like the 2023 work, Professor Tai Wen-feng from National University of Tainan and doctoral candidate Yang Chia-chi from National Cheng Kung University’s Department of History have collaborated for this book, which explores the oral culture within the “Circle of Protection” of Taijiang National Park and whose content is divided into three chapters: legends, proverbs, and stories. The book launch and related events will highlight Taijiang’s diverse oral traditions and their significance in local studies. The public is invited to join in and discover the rich cultural narratives passed down through generations on this land.
The book launch event is scheduled for Friday, March 14, 2025, at 10:00 AM in Screening Room 1 of the Taijiang National Park Visitor Center. The event will feature a book reading by the two authors to be moderated by Associate Professor Chang Ching-i from the Department of Cultural and Natural Resources at the National University of Tainan, an expert in Taiwan’s history and local chronicles. In addition, lectures by the authors will be held at the same venue on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at 9:30 AM. Registration for both events are now open, but spots are limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. For more details, please visit the Taijiang National Park website (https://www.tjnp.gov.tw).
Participants who successfully register and attend the event without leaving early will receive one copy of the book per household or individual. During the event, attendees will also have the opportunity to purchase additional copies at a special 50% discount on-site. Those interested are encouraged to sign up as soon as possible.
