Embark on a Journey Through Taijiang’s History; Taijiang Legend—Tainan 400: Memories of the Sea and the Land Exhibition

While dedicated to environmental conservation, the Taijiang National Park Headquarters, which is under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service of Taiwan’s Ministry of the Interior, also employs diverse methods to engage the public, such as guided tours, educational exhibits, and activities. Through a fun and accessible approach, visitors can explore Taijiang’s rich historical and natural heritage while understanding the role of national parks in preserving both nature and cultural history.

In conjunction with the Tainan 400 events, this exhibition is inspired by “A Story of Taijiang,” a short play promoted by Taijiang National Park Headquarters to showcase the history of Taijiang. The exhibition traces the major transformations that have taken place in the Taijiang Lagoon region over the past 400 years, beginning with the arrival of the Dutch and their trade-based governance, followed by the Koxinga regime, Qing rule, and Japanese rule. Illustrated characters guide visitors through the historical sites, industrial landscapes, and the changes that shaped them. The exhibition also features interactive games such as “Ancient Map Monopoly” and “Taijiang No.1,” allowing visitors to learn more about the Dutch exploration of the Taijiang Lagoon and understand how environmental changes influenced settlements, industries, politics, and the economy.

This exhibition is open from October 30, 2024, to March 30, 2025, at the second-floor exhibition hall of the Taijiang National Park Visitor Center. Visitors are invited to embark on a journey through history and learn about Taijiang’s pivotal role in Taiwan’s history as well as its own history.
