Surveys by Wetlands Taiwan Association have shown that the Zengwen Estuary and Luermen River are the home and breeding ground of at least 205 species of shellfish, 240 fish species and 49 species of crabs.
It obviously shows that these places are important ecological areas. With abundant food, the productivity of estuary wetlands is far higher than fields, attracting various kind of wildlife.
Crabs
The ten species of fiddler crabs found in Taiwan can all be found in the park. The crab, "Uca formosensis," is endemic to Taiwan. There is also the monk crab, called so because its round body looks like a monk’s head. These come out onto the mud banks when the tide ebbs the scene of their food foraging in tens of thousands would be spectacular.
Cetaceans
Of the 34 cetacean species recorded in the waters of Taiwan, 21 have been recorded in the park area, making it a place of the west coast of Taiwan. That is suited for the development of whale watching.
Fish
Some of Taiwan’s wetlands retain a high level of fish diversity and plentiful fish stocks. For example almost 240 fish species have been recorded in Sicao Wetlands and Cigu Lagoon.

Located in Indo-Pacific Ocean, accompanied by various estuary environments, such as flat mud or sand sea areas with littoral currents passing by, more than 205 species of shellfish have been recorded in the park. Saltwater oysters and clams are important economically. Red-mouth clam digging are held locally to attract tourist.
