The Anshun Salt Factory in Taijiang National Park was built by the Taiwan Salt Company when Taiwan was under Japanese rule. Completed in 1923, it was the most advanced salt pan at that time. After completion in April 1923, Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito visited Taiwan for 12 days. During the visit, His Royal Highness conducted an intensive two-day inspection tour in Tainan. A visit to the Anshun Salt Factory was arranged back then, which shows the importance of Anshun Salt Factory to the development the Taiwanese salt industry. This year is the 99th anniversary of the visit by Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito and the completion of the Anshun Salt Factory. To promote local culture and history, the Taijiang National Park Headquarters holds the event “Travel in Tainan with Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito” on April 16, 2022. It is an event about reading the history and culture of Taijiang and taking a tour of the salt industry. Visitors are welcome to sign up for the event.

In this event, visitors are led to read about selected historical sites Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito visited (e.g. Old Tainan Magistrate Residence, Former Tainan Prefectural Government building, Nanmen Primary School, Tainan Confucian Temple) and listen to wonderful stories intertwined in time and place. Visitors can visit the historical sites and special buildings in the salt village in Anshun Salt Factory, experience the actual drying of salt, and learn how to use bittern to make delicious tofu pudding and tofu.

The event takes place on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Up to 32 people may sign up for the event. Each participant pays NT$ 300.
