Riding a motorcycle or driving a car into the special scenic area of Qigu sandbank can be fined with up to TWD3,000

In order to prevent the destruction of the sandbank terrain and vegetation, and affect the ecological environment and local industries, it is not allowed to enter the special scenic area of Qigu sandbank (hereinafter referred to as the Sandbank Special Scenic Area) in Taijiang National Park without applying for permission. Every offenders will be fined TWD1,500 to TWD3,000 in accordance with Article 26 of the National Park Law. In view of the increasing number of tourists in recent years, the Seventh Brigade of the Seventh Special Police Corps of NPA of MOI has assisted the Taijiang Office in strengthening patrols of the area since March 2020. Till the end of February 2021, 14 cases of illegal vehicle riding into the Sandbank Special Scenic Area have been confirmed.

The Sandbank Special Scenic Area is subdivided into the northern and southern sections, the northern section includes the Qingshan Harbor Sandbank and the Wangzailiao Sandbank, and the southern section is combined by the Dingtoue Sandbank and the New Fulun Sandbank. The Dingtoue Sandbank and the northern section of the sandbank enclose the "largest lagoon in Taiwan" - the Qigu Lagoon, which attracts a large number of tourists every year. In recent years, the southern section of the Dingtoue Sandbank has been praised by social media as the "Taiwan version of the Sahara Desert" because of its undulating sand dunes and has become a check-in attraction with the adjacent "Taiwan Far West Point" lighthouse - Guosheng Lighthouse. The New Fulun Sandbank is also an important habitat for black-faced spoonbills and has become a stopover attraction during the tour.

In order to maintain the quality of tourists’ recreation and avoid vehicle driving and damage to the sandbank landform and ecological habitat, it is not allowed to enter this area to prevent vehicles from killing animals and plants. Exceptions are non-public safety preventions, ecological restoration, academic research and local existing industry traffic. Anyone who enters by driving the vehicle without applying for permission has violated the provisions of Paragraph 7, Article 13 of the National Park Law and will be punished in accordance with the law. The public shall comply with the law, when you drive a car to visit, please park the vehicle at the legal parking places on the side of the sandbank, and enter on foot. By implementing low-carbon and traceless travel, you and me jointly maintain the ecology and the environment, and avoid vehicles trapped on the sandbar, endangering your own safety.
