The Black-faced Spoonbill Conservation Area is an estuary marsh wetland with an area of about 300 hectares. It was designed to conserve wild birds and their habitat near the Zengwen River Estuary. Towards the end of each September, the conservation area houses as much as half of the total population of the endangered black-faced spoonbill. The management office provides commentaries, telescopes, and real time uploads of pictures of the black-faced spoonbill from October to March of the following year.

Shifen Community

Most of the residents of Shifen Community used to farm milkfish, creating a vast expanse of fishfarms and a unique local landscape. The wetlands are located where rivers meet the sea, nurturing a rich and diverse ecosystem. The black-faced spoonbills that come here to nest each year has become the community’s unique source of development and drive ecotourism.
